He that answereth a matter before he heareth it, it is folly and vexation of spirit. Proverbs 18:13 a poem about learning! A lot of people talk about striving for self-improvement, often with the intent to change their habits, attitudes, or even their entire personalities. But what do you do when you're really stuck? If your current situation is bad enough to cause you existential despair or genuine unhappiness at your current state in life, it's good to know that there are things you can do help improve your situation instead of merely coping with the symptoms. How do you make your life better? The first step to improving your life is to take action. You should identify what you want. If you want to change how you feel about yourself, for example, you need to know what the problem is—how are you treating yourself? How are others treating you? What kind of relationship are you in with others? Have your emotions gotten out of hand? Instead of being upset by the whole situation, try looking at it from a different perspective. Instead of feeling frustrated or disappointed that your friends have found someone else they like better, look at it as an opportunity to show them how great they really are and maybe even improve yourself by learning more about other people's opinions. A lot of people will say that they want to change their lives but that they don't know how or where to start. When you're faced with a situation where your life is limited by your current beliefs, habits, and behaviors, it can be overwhelming to think about all the different things you could do. The important thing is not to worry about what's right or wrong; it's to choose what you feel like doing next after investigating each option. You might want to make more of an effort at school; your grades might be subpar, and you'd like to get close with your teachers instead of being labeled as a troublemaker. You might want to spend more time hanging out with your friends or going to the gym. Your life is a vast array of options, and it's up to you which ones you choose. Work hard at doing what you feel like, and don't be afraid to take risks while doing so. You don't need to know everything about your situation; making judgment calls is an important part of learning and getting better. You'll get better and become more qualified for handling any problems that occur if you learn enough about the situation to let go of your preconceived notions and try new things instead. The second step toward improving yourself is learning how to make good decisions, especially when your decisions will affect others (i. e., not doing things that inconvenience or hurt others). You need to become a better problem solver, and developing good habits is the first step. In order to be a good problem solver, you need to learn and study the problem and the options available. This means doing research by talking with others in your field or in your community rather than just listening to what they say and relying on what they tell you. This also means communication skills by understanding what people want to hear instead of jumping in with an unsolicited solution that may never match up to what people want just because it's convenient for you. cfa1e77820
